Dr.Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, was established by an Act of Govt. of Uttar Pradesh in 2005, U.P. Act No.28 of 2005 and came into being on 4th of January 2006 to meet up the new challenges in legal field and to strengthen the vision that was given by the establishment of first National Law School of the country. The University, which is getting liberal grants from the State Government, is committed to provide excellent infrastructural facilities and environment to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal process and to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibilities to serve the society in the field of law by developing skills in advocacy, judicial and other legal services and legislation and the like.
Ever since the first edition in 2011, the RMLNLU National Mediation Competition has established itself as one of India’s biggest competitions in the field of Alternative Disputes Resolution. The fifth edition concluded in January 2019 and witnessed an enthusiastic participation of all premier law schools of the country, along with experts in the field of dispute resolution from India and abroad. The competition has emerged as a pioneering initiative which boasts of providing one of the highest amounts as prize money of all ADR competitions to the winners. Furthermore, all previous editions have been accompanied by events which inculcate the knowledge and skill of ADR among interested minds. Workshops for participants and non-participants, conferences, paper presentations and interactive events have been organised as an inseparable part of the RML National Mediation Competition. We aim at making the upcoming sixth edition bigger than ever- witnessing more participants, more judges, more events, and a better experience.
The RMLNLU National Mediation Competition has witnessed successful organization in five previous editions. The 2019 edition witnessed 32 teams from premier law schools across the country, a number growing each year substantially, as the competition grows older and the prestige climbs the axis. The Competition is known around the country for being one of the handful of those inviting judges from jurisdictions such as the Netherlands, Austria, England, etc. who grace the competition with their impeccable knowledge and catalyze the osmosis of the global boundaries of negotiation and mediation. Our competition has witnessed the presence of Dr. Claudia Winkler, Mr. Pascal Comvalius, Ms. Catherine Davidson and Mr. Thomas Valenti. Previous editions featured collaborations with The Negotiation Academy, PACT, Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation, EBC-SCC, amongst others. Workshops are also organized as part of the Competition with the objective of infusing knowledge of alternative modes of resolving disputes. A highlight of the 2018 edition was the organization of the International Conference on Alternate Dispute Resolution focusing on its challenges and prospects, accompanied by paper presentations by scholars from across the length and breadth of the nation. We have come a long way since the successful organization of the first edition in 2014, and aim to make the upcoming VI RML NMC the biggest event in our brief, but illustrious history.
